Why the Foundation martacappelli Onlus

The Foundation martacappelli Onlus was established on August 1st 2005 to honor the everlasting memory of our daughter, Marta Cappelli, born in Florence on September 18th 2004, and prematurely died at the tender age of nine months.

Without the help and support of our families and friends, the weight of that terrible experience would have been even more unbearable and unacceptable. For this reason, we decided to constitute the Foundation martacappelli Onlus, to be present for those parents who find themselves in a situation similar to ours, to give them our support, to never leave them alone, just like we were never left alone.

The Foundation is in name of Marta, we decided this when she was still alive, we whispered it in her ear, we promised her: “We will never forget you and in your name we will help other children.” And promises have to be maintained, especially those made to children.

Who was Marta

Marta passed away on June 20th 2005 at the ICU of the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence. She was 9 months old.

To this day, the causes that led to Marta’s sudden and unexpected death remain unknown. We may never know what triggered this dramatic event, and we will continue to ask ourselves “why?” for the rest of our lives, but we know that Marta was deeply loved and the 270 days we spent with her were the most extraordinary, unique and magnificent moments a parent can ever hope to experience.

Mission

From that summer of 2005, we commit every day in helping other parents and families that find themselves at their children’s bedside at the ICU and Sub-Intensive CU of the Meyer Hospital. Our presence and our help cannot change their fate, but we will be there and we will lend a hand whenever  it is needed.
